Aliens

I met a man some time ago
Who said he'd have no fear
Of interstellar ships from far
Suppose they landed here.

The crew he'd bid with faith to come
Before they've yet been seen.
What matters if they're violet,
Maroon or blue or green.

For one encounter such as this,
Would surely fill our days
With understanding helpful through
The difference of our ways.

But, as I came to know this man,
I wondered at his talk;
For, well I know, he'd change his mind
If fate should bring them black.
